Cambridge Professor Jason Arday is a big WTF moment to all honest people searching for jobs

By now, you have probably heard of Jason Arday. He has been headlining on papers and online in recent months. He is accused of plagiarism and perhaps lacks the honesty? Since the news broke, he has recently resigned from his position as the professor at the University of Cambridge (before getting fired I guess).

I have been searching for jobs for years and no luck yet. This news just makes me angry and frustrated on so many levels.

The question is not how did he get the job? But how the F**k did he get that job at the University of Cambridge? The university is well known for its heritage and excellence. Well, how is that for the excellence benchmark?  I have been applying for many different positions at many different universities (non- teaching) and have never heard back from any of them just yet. I am not bitter. I am just stating the obvious that sometimes just because it’s doesn’t mean it should be.

I have known or heard that many people have got the jobs at these universities that I have applied which begs the questions, is it right that it is never about one’s capabilities but how well they perform in the interviews. Most of the interview questions don’t even apply to the tasks once you start working. If the interviewers like you, you will get the job. Period! The better you speak or bullsh*t in the interview to convince them, the better you will likely to get that job. Don’t believe me? I have looked around many places I have worked at and some persons I have worked with or I have known for a while, I know how they work. There is no way I would like to work with these people. No way will they outperform me in terms of work ethics and performance in general at work. Yet here I am, still unemployed and still looking for a job while those people are employed and getting paid with definitely questionable work ethics. You will not know for sure how a person performs until you start working with them, right? In some cases, the managers will never know how an employee works because they are just too busy with their own workloads and if other co-workers are doing well, this particular one will be swept under the rug. This is why I am so angry at the people like Jason Arday who probably bullsh*t better than the rest of the field and got the job.

Of course in the market today, the economy is not doing well, we are competing with many who is looking for the same job, perhaps, and there will be someone who is better than me. I know. If you are still looking for a job, you are not alone. If you are lucky to get an interview and not getting that job, don’t be too sad, it’s not about your skills, perhaps, someone is better at selling just like Jason Arday.
